Why dūnzy?
We're making quilts by the dunes! The design inspo for dūnzy came from the Outer Sunset dunes-- the dunes at the edge of the San Francisco peninsula and the Pacific Ocean. These dunes are sometimes gloriously sunny, a lot of times moodily foggy, and border the quieter neighborhoods on the boundaries of the city.
The dunes always called to the adventurers of the city. In the late 1800s, San Franciscans ventured out to the then desolate dunes to renovate and live in abandoned street cars dumped by the city at the end of the line. And in the 1900s surfers joined the intrepid ranks to brave the wild and mostly empty surf. The first wetsuit was invented out here to allow these kiddos to get into the freezing Pacific in all conditions.
So that's where we started, out by these dunes. A little epic, a little anything goes. Our first collection aims to capture those vibes and provide some cozy for the epic backdrop of your lives.
Some things we believe in
- Sourcing carefully -- our quilts + materials are all made in the US, by Texas farmers, North Carolina millers, and Oakland sewers. Having proximity to the growers and producers gives us added ability to work with teams that we trust who treat their people and the land with care.
- All natural fibers to cozy up to and to feel cozy about -- your skin is your biggest organ, treat it right! All the fibers in your dūnzy are organically grown, with no chemicals used in growing or production. Our dyes are made directly from plants (like hand-picked marigold flowers from Washington!) Good for the land, good for your bod. More material vibes right this way.
- Using our platform responsibly -- we believe in small voices making waves. As a small brand in the textile space we started this biz believing that even small platforms and products could contribute to shifting consumer culture towards choices that center sustainable and equitable production.
